Over the years I have developed an obsession with boxes and fitting kit in the boxes. I suspect this is something that will be baffling at first sight to anyone who hasn't been on the road with a show or exhibition... and utterly recognisable to pretty much everyone who has.

Today, I have mostly been recovering from an exhibit hackathon on the subject of climate change: we were challenged to build an exhibit in 3 days in a Cambridge University museum on the subject of climate change. It was interesting, intense, and my team won the judges award, which was a great combination!

We were asked to build a large fire tornado that would look good on a stage for an audience of a thousand. Building it was educational.

Something I have noticed repeatedly when trying to build science communication kit that is based around biology, is that I end up hitting the same problems as nature has, and inadvertently solve them in a similar way.

Fun fly sticks are an amazing piece of engineering, for about £20 you can buy a van-de-graaf in a stick.

Hanging around people in the British Interactive Group, I get the impression that one of the major problems with the millennium science centres was the way they acquired experiments.

Would it be possible to enable a wider range of people to build exhibits, so increasing the innovation in the area and possibly reducing the price.
